I write about wine country, the hotels and tables around it, and the winemakers behind the bottle, from the Sierra Foothills to the Dalmatian coast.

Who I am
I'm Patrick R. Dunn, an independent food, wine, and travel writer based in Sparks, Nevada. I hold WSET Level 3, trained in narrative at the University of Maine under Stephen King and the folklorist Edward "Sandy" Ives, and wrote Stop Leading on Empty (Archway/Simon & Schuster, 2026).
Most of my work comes out of Amador County, Sonoma County, Napa Valley, Livermore, Lake Tahoe, and Reno, where I write about the wineries, inns, boutique hotels, and restaurants and the hosts who make a visit worth remembering. Kaštela in Croatia and the spring wine festivals in Georgia are on my calendar for 2027.
I'm a member of the International Food, Wine & Travel Writers Association and the North American Travel Journalists Association.
Readership
unique readers across my two newsletters, and growing every week
More than half the readers on each list open every issue. Every issue also lives on vianarra.com, and the wineries and inns I feature reshare the issues they appear in.
Subscriber counts as of November 2, 2026. All figures from Kit.
Meet the Winemakers
An oral history series. I record long interviews with winemakers, well known and lesser known, and publish each one in writing as a full transcript with my own introduction. The Smithsonian and UC Davis have both expressed interest in the series.

Hosted visits
When a tourism board, winery, hotel, or event hosts me, the visit becomes a story on vianarra.com, a feature in Pour Story Society, and Meet the Winemakers interviews where they fit. You'll get a ready-to-post kit with the live links for your own channels, and I pitch the story to outside publications. I can't promise a placement in someone else's magazine, but I'll always tell you where I'm pitching.
I check facts and quotes with you before anything runs. The opinions in the piece stay mine, and every hosted visit is disclosed in what I publish.
